Mandatory registration for Supported Independent Living and platform providers began on 1 July 2026, announced by the Minister for the NDIS on 18 December 2025. If you are already delivering SIL and you are not yet registered, 1 October is the date your application has to be submitted.

The NDIS Commission is blunt about what that date buys you: “Providers can continue to deliver supported independent living (SIL) during the application for registration if they apply by 1 October 2026.” Apply in time and you keep operating while the audit runs. Miss it — or have the application refused — and you cannot deliver SIL at all.

There is a second thing the date hides. Registration is not a form. SIL now has its own class of support, 0138 – Assistance with supported independent living, and registered SIL providers must pass a certification audit against the core NDIS Practice Standards and a new SIL supplementary module that also took effect on 1 July 2026.
